At the Board of Education meeting on May 27, 2025, the Gering Public Schools Board of Education formally accepted the resignation of Board Member, Brian Copsey. In accordance with Nebraska state law, the Board will move forward with the process to appoint a qualified community member to serve the remainder of Mr. Copsey’s term.
The Board encourages residents of the Gering Public Schools District who are passionate about public education and committed to student success to consider applying for this volunteer leadership position.
Application Process:
Applications will be available beginning Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the Superintendent’s Office, located at 1519 10th Street, Gering, NE.
To qualify, applicants must:
Be a registered voter residing in the Gering School District;
Not have been convicted of a felony in any state;
Not be in default as a collector or custodian of public money or property;
Not be engaged in a contract to teach with Gering Public Schools.

Interview & Appointment Timeline:
The Board of Education will conduct applicant interviews in open session during a Special Board Meeting on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 7:00 p.m., held in the Gering High School Freshman Academy (following the regular June Board Meeting).
Following interviews, the Board will select a candidate to recommend for appointment.
The selected applicant will be officially appointed and take the Oath of Office during the Regular July Board Meeting, scheduled for Monday, July 14, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.
