Summer Sun

Summer is right around the corner! Give your kids a season to remember at Gering's Summer Sun Food and Fun Day Camp in partnership with the YMCA!  Download the Camp Brochure.

Thanks to a new Summer of Youth grant that Gering Public Schools received, students have some expanded opportunities this summer! Beyond School Bells, an initiative of Nebraska Children and Families Foundation, in partnership with the Nebraska Department of Education, has awarded GPS $50,000 in summer funding.

These funds were made available through federal dollars as well as private funds and are aimed at increasing high quality summer learning programs in communities where there simply aren't enough spots for the children who need them.

FAQs

  • Do I have to attend all 10 weeks?
    • No, families can select specific weeks only (please note on your enrollment form).
  • How do I qualify for a scholarship?
    • Simply note your need for a scholarship on the enrollment form and a representative from the Summer Sun Food and Fun Day Camp program will be in contact.
  • Will the bus pick-up my student directly from our home?
    • Bus routes and pick-up locations will be determined mid-May.  Depending on the age of the child and the number of students in the same neighborhoods will be a determining factor. Families needing transportation can expect communication regarding pick-up and drop off locations prior to the beginning of Day Camp.
  • My student will be attending Gering's Summer School - can they still attend the Day Camp?
    • Absolutely, the Summer Sun Food and Fun Day Camp can be an extension to the summer school day for families needing childcare until 5:30pm.  Simply note on the application that your child is attending summer school. We will ensure transportation from the elementary summer school attendance center to the Day Camp program.
