GERING, Neb.(March 13, 2026)- Gering High School senior Trinity Hedman has been named a candidate in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, one of the nation’s highest honors for graduating high school seniors.
Hedman is among more than 5,000 candidates selected from nearly 3.6 million students expected to graduate from U.S. high schools in 2026.
Established in 1964 by executive order of the President, the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program recognizes some of the nation’s most distinguished graduating seniors for accomplishments in academic success, leadership, character, and service to school and community. The program was expanded in 1979 to honor students with exceptional talent in the visual, creative, and performing arts, and again in 2015 to recognize students demonstrating excellence in career and technical education fields.
Candidates advance through a highly competitive selection process. A distinguished panel of educators will review submissions and select approximately 600 semifinalists this spring. The Commission on Presidential Scholars, appointed by the President, will then select the finalists, with up to 161 students named U.S. Presidential Scholars each year. Scholars are recognized nationally for their accomplishments and potential to contribute to the future of the nation.
Trinity is the daughter of Travis and Teresa Hedman of Gering.
