GMS

Gering voters have approved the Gering Middle School bond, with 2347 voting in favor and 1525 voting against, a 61% approval. This is a significant investment in our students, our schools and generations of Bulldogs to come.

Our community made a decision that will reach far beyond the walls of a school.

To everyone who took the time to ask questions, share concerns, join conversations and make an informed decision, we simply say … thank you. We know this was an important decision for our community, and we are deeply grateful for the trust placed in the future of Gering’s children.

Decades ago, this community invested in its children by transforming Central Elementary into a junior high school. That decision became part of Gering’s story. Today, almost one-third of our current staff are Gering alumni that came through the school shaped by that investment.

Think about that for a moment. The decisions one generation made helped shape the people who would one day come back to teach, serve and invest in the next. Now, we have the opportunity to carry that legacy forward at least another 70 years.

To our GMS teachers and staff: We hope you feel the pride behind this moment and recognize what this investment represents … not only for your students, but for the important work you do every day. Let this serve as a reminder that your work matters, your dedication is seen, and the community you serve believes in the future YOU help build.

To our students: This was, is, and will always be about you. It is about your experiences today, the opportunities and the possibilities we hope you will carry with you long after you leave our schools. One day, you may look back and realize that people you may never meet made a decision with you in mind. That is the power of a community.

To the families whose children and grandchildren will one day learn at GMS: You may not know the names of the people who helped make this possible, but you will feel the impact of their decision.

And to our Gering community: Thank you for continuing the conversation. Built by Listening was never just a phrase. It was a reminder that the voices, questions and perspectives of this community matter. We have learned through this process that we are better when we lean into that, and we are better because of it. That listening must continue long after today.

We cannot know all the ways this decision will shape the future. But today, we are grateful and we are proud. However, we are also mindful of the responsibility that comes with this investment.

More than seven decades from now, we hope another generation will look back and recognize what this community did for its children. Our Bulldog hearts are so grateful. Thank you, Gering!
