GERING, NE (April 7, 2026) – The Gering Public Schools Board of Education has offered Dr. Kory Knight the position of Interim Superintendent, effective July 1, 2026. A respected and experienced leader within the district, Dr. Knight will transition from her current role as Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment to guide Gering Public Schools through this upcoming leadership period.

The Board selected Dr. Knight based on her extensive experience in Gering and her strong track record of advancing student learning. In her role as Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, she has led initiatives that contributed to measurable districtwide growth in English Language Arts, Math, and Science, while also guiding successful Nebraska Frameworks accreditation cycles and strengthening continuous improvement practices across the district.

“Dr. Knight has been a cornerstone of Gering Public Schools for more than 15 years,” stated Board President, Greg Trautman. “Her journey from the classroom to district leadership reflects a deep understanding of the needs of our students, staff, and community.”

Dr. Knight began her career in Gering as a sixth-grade teacher at Geil Elementary and later served as Assistant Principal and Dean of Students at Gering High School. She holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in P-12 System-Level Educational Leadership from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

In addition to her work in education, Dr. Knight is actively involved in the community, serving on the board of Regional West Medical Center and mentoring students through the TeamMates program.

The offer is under negotiation and is expected to be formalized at the April 13, 2026 regular board meeting.
