GERING, Neb. (March 19, 2026) — Gering Public Schools is pleased to announce Scott Ruff as the new Head Boys Wrestling Coach at Gering High School.
Ruff brings a distinguished wrestling background and a deep respect for the sport and its community. He was a Wyoming state wrestling champion in high school, a Junior College National Champion, and an NCAA Division II National Champion at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), where he also served as an assistant wrestling coach. He is also a four-time All-American. Ruff served as the head wrestling coach at Alliance High School from 2013 to 2017, further demonstrating his commitment to developing student-athletes.
Beyond his accomplishments on the mat, Ruff’s connection to Gering runs through his family. His son, Paul Ruff, built an impressive wrestling career as a Bulldog, earning recognition as a three-time state medalist and two-time state runner-up, leaving a lasting mark on the program.
“Wrestling has always been a strong part of our school community,” shares Activities Director Shawn Seiler. “We are excited to welcome Scott to Gering High School and to see the impact of his passion, commitment to excellence, and pride reflected in our wrestling program.”
Ruff shared his appreciation for joining the Bulldogs: “Wrestling has shaped who I am, and I have great respect for the tradition and community that surrounds this sport. I’m honored to join the Gering High School team and look forward to working with our student-athletes and being part of something that means so much to our community.”
