Gering, Neb. (January 28, 2026) – Gering Public Schools is pleased to announce that Jj Behrens will return to the district as the new Activities Director, effective July 2026. Behrens previously served Gering High School as a Special Education teacher and coach from 2011 to 2017, and will return with nearly a decade of expanded leadership.
Since leaving Gering, Behrens has significantly expanded his professional experience in Colorado, most recently serving as Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at Greeley West High School, where he also previously held the role of Dean of Students. In this capacity, Behrens provided oversight for 20 CHSAA athletics and multiple activities in a diverse school community.
“I have learned a tremendous amount over the last several years while leading activities and diverse academic programs,” said Behrens. “I am incredibly grateful to take the leadership experience I have gained and return to a school district and community I love. My family and I have missed the Gering area, and are excited to return and build on the excellence of Gering activities.”
Behrens holds a Professional Principal License (K–12) and earned his Educational Administration credentials from Chadron State College. He also holds a Master of Arts in Special Education from Grand Canyon University and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from the University of Northern Colorado.
“Gering High School activities have benefited greatly from the leadership of current AD, Shawn Seiler, and we are grateful for the strong foundation he has built,” said Principal Mario Chavez. “With Jj returning, his experience, leadership, and genuine passion for Gering will help continue that work, supporting students in building pride, teamwork, and success.”
