Gering on the National Stage

With millions of children nationwide lacking access to licensed childcare, Gering, through the work of Gering Communities for Kids, is setting an example for rural communities through collaboration and creativity. Key highlights include:

  • Expanded programming: Through the GPS–YMCA partnership, families have access to childcare during summer, after-school, and school days off, providing flexibility and support.

  • Workforce support: Families can maintain employment knowing their children are receiving quality care and early learning beyond the school day.

  • Future-focused planning: Gering High School students are engaged in leadership and developing skills to join the childcare workforce, shaping the next generation of educators and caregivers.

“We are proud that our community’s work is being recognized nationally,” said Dr. Nicole Regan, Superintendent of Gering Public Schools. “This feature celebrates the dedication of our childcare staff to support families and build a strong future for Gering.”

“By combining the resources and expertise of the school district and the YMCA, we’ve created a childcare program that truly meets the needs of our families,” added Jennifer Sibal, Director of Communication and Gering Communities for Kids committee member. “This recognition shows what’s possible when a community comes together, listens to families, and invests in kids.”
