(June 17, 2025) Gering, NE –The Gering Public Schools Board of Education has selected Bryan Barrett to fill the vacant seat on the Board following the resignation of longtime member Brian Copsey. Barrett was appointed during open session at a special board meeting held on Tuesday, June 16. He will serve the remainder of Mr. Copsey’s term through 2026 and will be officially sworn in on July 1, 2025.
The selection process included interviews with two outstanding candidates, both of whom expressed a strong commitment to the children and future of the Gering community. The Board was impressed by the high caliber of applicants and their genuine desire to serve.
“It’s exciting to see highly qualified citizens eager to serve our students, staff, and schools,” said Board President Greg Trautman. “I think Bryan will do a great job—he brings a strong financial perspective but also spoke about leaning into the current Board to learn and grow in order to best serve students. It was great to hear from two exceptional individuals.”
Barrett’s background and approach reflect a strong commitment to public education, a respect for collaborative leadership, and a readiness to support Gering’s continued growth and success.
