Gering, Nebraska (May 7, 2024) - Gering High School is proud to announce that senior Nevaeh Hrasky has been named the recipient of the highly esteemed $10,000 Aksarben Foundation Scholarship for TeamMates Mentoring. This prestigious scholarship is awarded to exceptional individuals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to mentoring, academics and community. Nevaeh, a mentee in the TeamMates Mentoring program, has demonstrated personal and academic growth, thanks, in part, to the support and encouragement of her mentor, Glenda Ehler.

"I was nervous when I first started meeting with Glenda," shares Hrasky. "Over the years, she has given me so much guidance as another safe and healthy adult role model in my life. She isn't afraid to help me work through hard things, tell me what's up, and encourages me to reflect toward myself."

At its core, the TeamMates Mentoring Program is dedicated to providing positive role models for youth, fostering meaningful relationships, and empowering students to reach their full potential. Through one-on-one mentoring relationships, students are paired with caring adult mentors who serve as advocates, allies, and friends. These mentors provide guidance, encouragement, and a listening ear, helping students navigate the challenges of adolescence and pursue their dreams with confidence and resilience.

Mentor, Glenda Ehler, shares "I've seen Nevaeh blossom over these last four years. She is a dedicated student and has really pushed herself to take part in opportunities that connect to her future career field through job shadowing and work-based learning. It's been a pleasure to be her mentor."

Scotts Bluff County TeamMates Mentoring Coordinator, Mary Kay Haun adds, "We are immensely proud of Naveah. She is one of a small number of mentees from our TeamMates Chapter to receive this national scholarship. I think it speaks to her hard work and the special, impactful relationships formed through TeamMates Mentoring."

As for next steps, this scholarship will provide support Naveah's coursework at the University of Nebraska Omaha where she will work toward her dream of becoming an OB-GYN.
