Jan 16 Late Start

Gering Families,

Once again, the forecast shows temperatures  dropping dangerously low overnight and into the morning. For this reason,  Gering Public Schools will have a 10am late start Tuesday, January 16th (NO morning half-day preschool session). We will monitor conditions and alert families (in the morning) IF we determine school will not be in session.  No rural bus routes will run Tuesday. Below we have outlined several anticipated FAQs:

Will bus routes run?

  • No rural bus routes planned for Tuesday, January 16.  For a late start, simply add 2 hours to the normal pick-up time for your student(s). Families can also use the FirstView app to track their bus routes or contact them directly at 308-635-6214.

What time will the building open for a late start?

  • Families can begin dropping off students to schools at 9:40am. We will have staff there for students who may arrive earlier on buses. 

  • No morning half-day preschool session on Tuesday, January 16th.

    • Full-day Prek classes will begin at 10am

    • Afternoon half-day session will operate with a regular schedule. 

Will breakfast be offered for students for a late start?

  • Yes, Taher staff will offer a more mobile grab n’ go option for students

Which class should my GMS and/or GHS student report to for a late start?

  • Upon arrival, students will be directed by building staff as to which classroom to report to. 

My GHS student has a dual credit course between 7-10am, should they report?

My student’s team has a morning practice scheduled, should they report?

  • No, there will be no practices BEFORE school Tuesday, January 16th.
