Services Provided

School health services are intended to support, not substitute, the health care which should be provided by parents. The overall goal of the school health services program is to contribute to the educational success, well-being, and lifelong health of every student. To accomplish this, the school health services program will:

  • Monitor health screenings, immunizations and physical examination requirements to comply with the state school laws.
  • Provide direct care, developing and implementing individual health plans when appropriate, supporting inclusion of students with special needs, and serving as a health expert on the multidisciplinary teams.
  • Provide a system for responding to medical crisis.
  • Assist students to become increasingly responsible for their health decisions through education, counseling and direct care.
  • Promote a healthy and safe school environment.
  • Minimize the spread of communicable diseases.
  • Promote utilization of primary care and other community resources to establish medical homes promoting the health of children and families.
  • Provide health education and health promotion activities for students, families and staff, that includes effective home-school communication.
  • Evaluate the health program periodically reflecting health needs of the community at large and providing leadership for health policies and program development within the school district.
