About Geil Elementary

Geil Elementary

Welcome to Geil Elementary!

Geil Elementary is a K-5 elementary school and was built in 1975 and opened the fall of 1976.  The school is named after Charles A. Geil. Mr. Geil devoted 45 years of his life to education by serving on the Gering Board of Education.  Before Mr. Geil passed away at the age of 99, he would walk the halls of Geil and visit with the students about what they were learning.  Mr. Geil valued quality education and always promoted learning which remains our focus more than 40 years later.

All 38 certified and classified Geil staff members collaborate in a culture of professional learning teams to provide students the best opportunities for a quality education.  We are committed to the development of the whole child.  We expect students to grow academically, socially, emotionally and physically.

Geil is built on a foundation of these core values; Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be on Time.  Geil uses BIST along with PBS, Boy's Town Social Skills and a Social Emotional Curriculum throughout the school day.  These expectations are taught and reinforced in all areas of the school.  Students are rewarded for positive behavior through incentives in the classroom and DAWG Day assemblies and celebrations.  Students who excel in these core values have a chance to be part of the "Geil Leadership Team."  This team is open to 3rd - 6th grade students who want to be leaders and role models.  Leadership Team members must exemplify these core values.  These students lead the school in school and community projects.

Geil's curriculum is aligned with Nebraska content standards.  Our expectations are balanced with high levels of support, intervention and enrichment.  We offer a complete continuum of services for students ranging from special education to gifted and talented options, along with a counselor, PE, technology and music.

Geil parents and families play an important role in providing the Geil community with a variety of educational opportunities.  The Geil community pulls together each year to sponsor the "Back-To-School Bash," "Bingo For Books," and many other family activities.

Come out and visit Geil today!  Visitors are always welcome, and we welcome your thoughts and ideas!
