Professional Development

Professional growth is described as those activities in which certificated personnel may participate to obtain expertise, inventive concepts, and real-world knowledge in their area of teaching and learning which may be applied in the classroom. Professional growth for Gering Public Schools certificated personnel shall be measured by a point system. Points may be accumulated through college work, educational endeavors, in-service activities, and other approved activities which are of benefit to the Gering Public Schools District.

The board encourages certificated employees to attend and participate in professional development activities to maintain, develop, and extend their skills. The board shall maintain and support an in-service program for certificated employees.

The superintendent and or designee will develop and schedule in-service workshops as appropriate to the needs of the district and will inform the board regarding in-service staff development.

All certified employees permanently employed by the District shall provide evidence of professional growth every six years as provided by law and District Policy 409.1.
