Scotts Bluff National Monument

Gering is located in the scenic Panhandle of Nebraska at the base of Scotts Bluff National Monument along the North Platte River Valley. Located at the intersection of historic Nebraska Highway 92 and Nebraska Highway 71, Gering is just 42 miles north of Interstate 80.

A city of approximately 8,500, Gering is situated in the North Platte River Valley area of western Nebraska and is a part of the 7th largest urban area in the state. Agriculture, education, and healthcare lie at the heart of Gering's economy.

Gering is consistently rated as one of the top five communities to live in Nebraska. Low crime rates, top flight schools, access to services, and great neighborhoods are all reasons why people make Gering their home.

The community's higher education needs are provided by Western Nebraska Community College and Chadron State College.

The Gering Public Schools partners with the TeamMates Mentoring Program. TeamMates staff members and mentors meet with Gering students both at school and in the community.

Among the many services offered in Gering are churches, swimming facilities, the YMCA, Five Rocks Amphitheater, museums, and many recreational areas including Scotts Bluff National Monument and the Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area and Nature Center.
