TAKE-HOME READING PROGRAM

Northfield is fortunate to have a Take-Home Reading Program which is funded through the Title 1 Program. This is a program for 1st through 3rd grades to promote reading at home. Research has proven that parental interest and time with their child’s education can greatly improve their success in school. Reading to children is the single most effective activity to make children better readers.

Each week the children take home a book with suggested activities in a plastic bag. The children may read their book to a parent; have the parent read to them, or a combination of both. Students earn rewards by completing projects related to their book. Many students are very creative by drawing pictures, making bookmarkers, and creating models about the book they read. The projects are displayed in the hallway across from the music room. After completing 5 books/projects, students will receive rewards. If students complete 10 books/projects, they receive additional rewards. We also have rewards for students who complete 15, 20, and 25 books/projects. Please encourage your child to participate. It is a fun way to promote reading!

We have volunteers who check out the books and monitor the program. We are always in need of volunteers. If you are interested, please call the school at 436-5555. Keep Reading!
