Sixth Graders Enjoy Branch Out!

by Becky Michael

December 05, 2007

In September, the sixth grade class traveled out to the Wildcat Hills Nature Center.  Our objective for the day was to explore our natural resources here in the valley.  Students were split into homeroom groups and rotated through six stations.  One station involved tree identification while another involved examining tree by-products.  Our students also demonstrated the growth process of trees and studied the benefits of a snag tree.  A snag tree is a dead tree that provides habitational purposes for wildlife.  Fire fighting techniques were also shared chiefly discussing the importance of a controlled burn  The best thing about our day was the opportunity to plant a tree! Thank you, NRD and E.S.U. 13!!
