Special Education

Definition: Special education means specially designed instruction, at no cost to the parents, to meet the unique needs of a child with a disability.  This means adapting, as appropriate to the needs of an eligible child under IDEA and state law, the content, methodology, or delivery of instruction. Special Education is designed to address the unique needs of the child that result from the child's disability; and to ensure access of the child to the general curriculum, so that the child can meet the education standards within the jurisdiction of the public agency that apply to all children. Instruction is conducted in the classroom, in the home, in hospitals and institutions, and in other settings; and includes instruction in physical education.

Special Education Programs

  • Birth-3 Early Intervention Program:  The Early Development Network supports families and provides services that are based on the needs of children birth to age three and the specific concerns of the families. Depending on your child's needs, Services Coordinators, Special Education teachers, and other professionals will work together to develop a plan to help our child to grow and develop. If your child qualifies, the program "Connects" families with early intervention services to help infants and toddlers grow and develop and help their families in this process. Early intervention services are provided primarily in the home, or the most appropriate natural environment.
